Eliminate Double-Booked Meetings
Did you ever wish you could see your coworker’s availability before trying to schedule a meeting? Now you can! Our new Calendar interface means your co-workers, meeting location and resources availability is displayed at-a-glance creating or updating a meeting has never been faster or easier. Users can also customize their availability in their preferred time zone to let people know when they’re available for meetings.

Don’t Wait to Communicate Persistent Chat Empowers Users
Use the power of the latest persistent chat features in Sametime from within the Verse UX. This new feature allows you to leave a Sametime chat message for colleagues who are offline or who have marked themselves as “Do Not Disturb” (requires Sametime® version 11.6.2 or higher FP or Sametime version 12 or higher and persistent chat option enabled on Sametime server).

Sent-From Feature
We introduced this popular feature in Notes v12 and received great feedback from the Domino community. Therefore, HCL is bringing this feature to Verse in 3.0. You can now select the mail alias or internet address that you want to use when sending an email. This is particularly useful to those with mail-in databases managed by various users and those with multiple identities in the same company.

Domino Mail Product Strategy Update

24. Mai 2022 Posted by Agnes Ng

Providing a secure enterprise mail solution trusted by governments and regulated industries has always been an essential mission for HCL Domino. Trusted by 40% of the Fortune 500, Domino is the backbone of corporate communications and powers our customers’ workflow applications that run their business.

In every Domino release, we have continued to invest in the core platform for apps and mail. This includes our own desktop, web and mobile clients, plus open client options such as Apple Mail. Here, we provide an update on the progress we’ve made and what’s coming.

User Experience
Here are examples of the improvements we’ve made to both HCL Verse and HCL Notes. If you’ve not seen these before, please contact your BP or HCL sales representative for more information on upgrading so you can take full advantage of this more modern experience.

  • Migration tool — an intuitive UI for importing mail and calendar data from any third-party vendor such as Microsoft or Zimbra.

Note:*
Recently, Microsoft announced an initiative to consolidate its Outlook clients and mail protocols. In addition, they announced the deprecation of the Exchange Web Services (EWS) protocol and API and its M365-based replacement that even Exchange on-premises customers will need to use.

Due to the change in Microsoft’s protocol, and since most of the Domino customer base are Windows users, HCL has decided to invest in HCL Microsoft for Outlook (HTMO) to provide the open mail experience rather than continuing to develop EWS support. Specifically, our plan to deliver support for Outlook on Mac and Mobile under Project Quattro has ended. Consequently, in subsequent HTMO releases, we’ll focus on improving the ease of installation, performance, stability, and provide calendar feature parity with Notes and Verse where applicable.

As always, HCL Digital Solutions is fully committed to the Domino community and our customers.  We value your feedback, so please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or submit your ideas to Aha. Thank you for your support.

Questions (and All the Answers) about the New HCL Verse

12. Oktober 2021 Posted by Agnes Ng

We recently hosted a presentation about the latest version of our smart email solutions, HCL Verse v2.2.0. It was well-attended and there were some great questions raised. We have listed them here, along with responses from our experts. You can watch the complete replay here, and also read up on this launch here.

Verse 2.2.0 and related features

Q: We are already using Verse and upgrading from Domino v11 to v12. What does it take for us to upgrade to the latest version of Verse?

A: The latest version of Verse works on Domino v12. You will need to download the package from the license and download portal and install it on Domino as you have done before.

Q: How will a restored message avoid being archived again, assuming it matches the same archive rule?

A: Currently, mail rules only work in pre-defined condition and typically, it works with new incoming email which fits that pre-defined condition. In this case, the restored message shouldn’t be archived again.

General Use of Verse

Q: Is HCL Verse the default mail client on Domino?

A: We included Verse in the Domino v12 package. Customers can still choose the client that they prefer to use. The version of Verse in Domino v12 is v2.0.1, so if you want to use the latest version, you will have to get the package from the license and download portal and you can read this guide to getting started.

Q: Since Verse is a web client for HCL mail, can we use Verse without the ID Vault for users who do not use Notes at all?

A: Verse can be used without the ID Vault, but secure mail operations (signing and encryption) would not be supported in that case.

Verse Future Roadmap

Q: Is “delayed delivery” on the roadmap (for parity with Notes)?

A: We have this on our roadmap, but it is not our top priority at this point. We will provide updates in the coming months.

Q: In another email application, if the user searches for any name, it shows the result by highlighting the words in subject, sender name and mail body. Can we get this feature in Verse?

A: This is a great idea. We’ll consider this and see how we can fit this into our roadmap.

Q: Is Verse able to provide the password suggestion dialog when enforcing the password?

A: This feature is not available for now, but we’ll certainly consider it.

Q: There are many preferences still within the iNotes or via a Notes client which are not available in Verse. When will these become available within Verse?

A: We understand the concerns of managing preferences, so we have been delivering various preferences in the past releases and this release as well. We’ll continue to work on that. Ultimately, users should be able to manage most of the preferences on Verse, like what they can do on iNotes.

Q: Is Verse going to support two-factor login?

A: TOTP is on our roadmap, and we hope to ship it in the coming months.

(Q) Are you going to provide color-coding for senders?

A: Yes, this is one of our top priorities, so we do have a plan for it.

Verse installation and packages

(1) Q: What is the servers_lookup jar used for?

A: Please refer to the following documentation for more information:

Q: Can you please provide the system requirements for 2.2.0?

A: Yes, please refer to this system requirements.

HCL Verse v2.2.0

31. August 2021 Posted by Agnes Ng

We are pleased to announce the release of HCL Verse v2.2.0 for general availability.

In this release, we continue investing our effort in integration between Verse and Sametime and enhancing mail capabilities.

With the new features, you will be able to chat with your team members with one click from the mail view. Also, you no longer need to switch back and forth between browsers and installed PWA for accessing delegated mail files.

Here are some features in the latest release:

  • Sametime awareness icon of the sender in mail view

With this feature, when you open an email, you will see the sender’s Sametime status just next to their name. If the sender is online, you can click on the icon and initiate a chat with them immediately.
Try out this feature today and chat with your colleagues at ease

  • Archive Enhancements

In Verse 1.0.8 we introduced the ability to access archived mail files. In 2.2.0, you can now archive, or restore from the archive, single messages using Verse.

  • HCL Connections v6.5 and v7 support

You don’t have to worry about the versioning support of Connections in Verse if you are using Connections Profiles and File Previewing in Verse. We support the latest versions of Connections now!

  • Type Ahead List

Have you ever wanted to remove someone from your type-ahead list when you compose an email?

The suggestion in your type-ahead list is based on your interaction with that person/email. We introduce a new preference that allows you to remove any person or email from that list based on your needs. Don’t worry, this action is reversible.

  • Progressive Web App enhancement

We added support for accessing archived and delegated mail files using installed PWA. This helps better manage your work in the installed PWA and you don’t have to switch between browsers.

The above is just part of the story. If you want to know more about this release, please refer to the below documentation.

HCL Verse 2.1.0 Q&A

29. Juli 2021 Posted by Agnes Ng

(a)Verse 2.1.0 and related features:

(1) Q: What we need to do to activate Domino photo service on the server?
A: You will need to enable the notes.ini setting VOP_GK_FEATURE_230=1. Please refer to our
documentation

(2) Q: Can the contacts photo setting be controlled by the administrator? How can we make sure that
a user cannot alter the contacts photo that have been stored?
A: Admins can disable the photo booth using notes.ini setting VOP_GK_FEATURE_40=0. See #16 in our
documentation.

(3) Q: How do the Verse person profile picture and the Domino photo service integrate with HCL
Connections’ profile picture?
A: If you would like to use the Domino photo service, but are currently configured for Connections
integration, then you will need to set an additional notes.ini setting to leverage Domino photo service
instead of Connections profile photos. You can read more about this notes.ini setting here.

(4) Q: Do you need to do something extra for Sametime integration after upgrade to 11.5 FP1?
A: If you already have Sametime 11.5 FP1 installed, no additional configuration is needed. The only thing
that you need to make sure is that you have turned on persistent chat on Sametime. If this doesn’t work
for you, please reach out to HCL support and share your configuration with us.

(b)General Use of Verse and Extension

(1) Q: Can you modify HCL Verse logo to your company logo?
A: Yes, you can use our extension point to modify your logo? For more information about the extension
point, please refer to here.

(2) Q: When will Verse support archive capability?
A: Verse supports user accessing archived mail files today. For archiving a specific email on Verse, we are
currently working on it and hopefully it will be launched in coming months.

(3) Q: Will Verse have the option to use a secondary alias email and signature?
A: This feature is not available today, but we are planning to add a new functionality to allow users to
send emails with their alias name in near future.

(4) Q: Is there a way to view attachments without downloading them?
A: This functionality is available if you have Connections Docs configured so you can preview the file. We
are also planning to add the file preview feature for users without Connections.

(5) Q: Is there a way to connect Verse/HCL calendar to iPhone calendar or Google calendar?
A: This feature is available with Verse Native App on both iOS and Android.

(6) Q: Can we store a message from verse as an eml file to disk?
A: This is a good suggestion. This feature is not officially available. We will evaluate the feature and the
market needs. We will share it when there is any update about this feature.

(7) Q: Is HCL Verse going to support Stationaries?
A: This is not a high priority for us, but we have been receiving requests from customers about this
feature. We will keep reviewing our priority.

(8) Q: How does Verse integrate with Connections?
A: Verse integrates Connections in a few ways, including – Connections profiles to enable business cards,
photos, and electronic email signatures in Verse. – Attach and download Connections files when
composing and reading messages. – Preview attachments in an email For more information: Please refer
to our documentation.

(9) Q: Is it possible for a user to delete an attachment from a message?
A: That’s a good question. Unfortunately, it is not possible to delete an attachment from a message
using Verse Web now. We will certainly evaluate this feature suggestion.

(10) Q: Does HCL Verse have any plans for adding Notes preferences?
A: Verse’s positioning is a light-weight web mail client. Therefore, we are not aiming at adding all the
Notes preference into Verse. Some of them like senders’ color is on our list. We have plans for some
other preferences as well. More details will be shared in the future

to our documentation

(c)Verse extension and documentation

(1) Q: Where can I find documentation a tutorial to customize the UI?
A: We have this tutorial: https://doc.cwpcollaboration.com/verse-developer/docs/css-extension

(d)Verse installation and packages

(1)Q: It has been announced that Verse will be part of the Domino 12 download – will the same be
done in the Domino 11 code stream?
A: The Verse 2.0.1 kit will be included with Domino v12, not with Domino v11.

(2) Q: Is there any guide of upgrade process from 2.0?
A: The upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1 is simple. The install and config section of the documentation will walk
you through what is needed for Verse. If you have previously completed steps, you can skip them.
Upgrade simply can be removing the old jar and drop in the new ones. Set any notes.ini settings for new
features (i.e. Domino Photo Service) and restart the server. For more information, please refer to the
release note

Verse 2.1.0 Is Now Available!

15. April 2021 Posted by Agnes Ng

We are pleased to announce the release of HCL Verse 2.1.0 for general availability. In the past few months, we have been focusing on providing you a more user-friendly email platform which aims to boost your productivity at work.

Some of the new features of this release are:

Contact Photo from Domino NAB:

Now you can upload your contact photo (profile picture) to the Domino Directory through Verse. There are a few ways to do this:

(1) Upload a photo from a local drive
(2) Enter a URL to photo
(3) Take a picture using the photo booth in Verse and upload it!

If you already have a photo configured in the Domino directory, Verse can access the directory and display your contact photo.

New Extension Point – Modify on Send

Extensibility is one of the focuses of our product. In this release, we deliver a new extension point which allows customers to modify the email body and subject before mail is sent. One of the major use cases is inserting a classified marking to mail subject and body. This feature helps users to flag and classify emails based on sensitivity of information.  This is particularly useful to public authority, government departments and large enterprises.

Verse-Sametime Integration with new Sametime web client

This improvement is not limited to Verse 2.1.0. With Sametime 11.5 FP1  (released in Feb 2021) you can now initiate chat and meetings with your co-workers using the new Sametime web client. We understand that it may take time for customers to upgrade to Verse 2.1.0, so this new experience is compatible with previous versions of Verse as well.  To enjoy this new feature, just install the latest FP of Sametime!

These are just some of the features of this release.  To see the full list, please refer to our Release Note.  To try out these new features for yourself, simply download the package from Flexnet.

Updates Regarding HCL Notes v11 on Apple Big Sur

16. November 2020 Posted by Agnes Ng

Apple has officially released macOS Big Sur, its latest operating system, on Nov 12. We are aware that customers are unable to run the HCL Notes v11/11.0.1 client on a Mac after upgrading to Big Sur.

Various fixes have been applied to allow HCL Notes to run on Big Sur in the past few months. We introduced FP6 IF1 a few weeks ago for 10.0.1 which is supported on Big Sur GA. HCL Notes v11.0.1 FP2 is currently being tested by the HCL development team.

We understand the urgency of this issue and addressing it is our top priority. The fix pack for v11.0.1 (1101 FP2) is targeted to be released within a week. An announcement will be made when the fix pack is available on Flexnet.

You can read our tech note here.

Stay tuned, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
