HCL Domino’s ROI and Total Economic Benefit

26. Oktober 2021 Posted by Barry Rosen

HCL Domino is a secure, enterprise-grade, application development platform that helps thousands of organizations around the world build automated solutions, create workflows, and build powerful applications quickly and effectively. Domino powers millions of apps that run the business for more than 15,000 organizations globally, and it has proven its staying power, its rock-solid stability, and essential business value for more than 30 years. Everyone who works with Domino understands its security and strength, and those that are on the most recent version, know that it’s now web- and mobile-friendly, has low-code capabilities, and is cloud-native.

A couple of years ago, Forrester was commissioned by us to interview four customers (with about 20 years of experience using Domino) to find out the benefits and costs — the ROI — with their investment in the platform. What Forrester found was that total cost of ownership and overall ROI of Domino is a story that high-level decision-makers need to hear. Here are some of the most important business outcomes the customers told us in this study:

  • They saved almost $3 million in license costs by building the functionality they needed in-house. With Domino, you don’t need an additional CRM, email or other off-the-shelf, third-party software. It’s an all-in-one solution.
  • $1.3 million was saved in by implementing improved automation and workflow. Domino eliminates re-work and redundancies, enhancing collaboration and productivity.
  • Almost $1 million was saved by being able to use business users to build apps — eliminating some of the higher-end pro-code developer resources (and freeing up those resources to focus instead on the needs of the business, not building/tweaking apps).

Alongside benefits that are clearly quantifiable, the customers interviewed also expressed their appreciation for what Domino inherently does:

  • Enables the quick development of robust enterprise applications
  • Provides guaranteed performance and reliability (we frequently hear customers say, “it just WORKS”)
  • Domino doesn’t go down — apps and databases run for decades without stalling or interruption
  • Domino is backwards-compatible — upgrading from old versions to new ones is straightforward and direct
  • All apps are fully customizable and can be tailored easily to meet an industry’s — or an organization’s — unique business needs

Forrester found, overall, that these customers — while they did spend money on ongoing maintenance and development costs, and there are associated fees for software, servers, and support — benefited from an overall ROI of more than 300%.

19. Oktober 2021 Posted by DNUG Marketing

How to Choose the Right Database for Commerce

19. Oktober 2021 Posted by Amanda Tevis

“What is the best database for large eCommerce websites, and why?” was a question I saw on Quora. This question is important because managing data within your eCommerce website plays a pivotal role in delivering positive user experiences and providing smooth transactions. It doesn’t matter how well your eCommerce website interface is designed and how nice the products/services look. It will be worthless unless the eCommerce website has the performance to quickly retrieve, process, and deliver information.

Your database handles organizing and managing your company’s data. And with over 340 databases on the market, finding a powerful, reliable, and secure database for eCommerce can be a challenge, and choosing the best one can be overwhelming.

But we are here to help!

Below, we give some helpful tips on what to look for when choosing the right database for your eCommerce website.

Cloud Native: When evaluating databases, look for an enterprise-grade cloud native database that makes deploying, scaling, and managing data easy within a Kubernetes environment because a cloud native database offers transactional processing speed, reliability, and flexibility all in one.

Reliability: Consider a database with high availability (HA) that provides the performance and resiliency enterprises’ need, while meeting the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) for your business. ‘High Availability’ (HA) ensures the uptime required for enterprise, mission-critical applications to ensure business success.

Easy Deployment: Developers and agile teams want to begin development in a matter of minutes as opposed to days or weeks. Finding a database that allows for quick deployment yields significant benefits, including reduced time to value, decreased operational costs, and shortened output hours for developers.

Versatility: A database that runs on any cloud – private, public, or hybrid–with no vendor lock-in are features to look for because its capability translates well for on-premise, edge and/or cloud and even embedded/IoT solutions. Also, finding a multi-model database that encompasses multiple disparate data models within a single, streamlined backend allows you and your company to easily combine different database model types into one integrated database engine.

Transactional speed: Speed and performance are top considerations when choosing a database to power critical applications. A database that rapidly delivers the throughput (TPS/TPM), response time, and cost per transaction modern applications require is necessary for large eCommerce platforms.

Ease of Use: A modern user interface to monitor and manage the database delivers business productivity and efficiency. Therefore, you must pay attention to a database’s usability from various viewpoints, including the number of active users it can support at a time, visualization, and overall ease of use. In addition, it would help if you consider ease of reporting key performance indicators (KPIs), a task scheduler, customizable alerting system, operating system, and framework compatibility.

Cost: While scalability and transactional speed requirements are crucial considerations, you can’t overlook the total cost (TCO) of implementing a database with your eCommerce solution. Your new database should fall within your budget and align with your organization’s financial objectives and existing sales and marketing plans.

Trial the Product: Vendors provide experts who will demo the database and perhaps build a customized demo based on your requirements. But you need to know what’s going on behind the curtain. So instead of being shown a static report, why not try to build the demo yourself.  Best thing outside of going to a class to learn about the database is requesting a free trial, so that you can work hands-on with the database. It’s a fantastic way to get an actual perspective on the product.

Same Vendor: Now, picking an eCommerce solution from one vendor and a database from another one happens all the time and can work. But one way you can look to complement your eCommerce solution with a powerful database is to buy from the same vendor. This ensures tight integration between the products, and can deliver on innovation that customers want without being constrained by other software vendors. Plus, the same vendor carefully plans roadmaps, support, and new releases for their products to work collectively without issues.

The list of factors to consider when choosing a database is endless. However, the above tips are some of the most valuable ones if you are looking for a place to start.

Are you looking for a powerful, reliable, proven database to power your cloud-native application development projects? Or have questions? Contact the OneDB team, and we will assist.

Questions (and All the Answers) about the New HCL Verse

12. Oktober 2021 Posted by Agnes Ng

We recently hosted a presentation about the latest version of our smart email solutions, HCL Verse v2.2.0. It was well-attended and there were some great questions raised. We have listed them here, along with responses from our experts. You can watch the complete replay here, and also read up on this launch here.

Verse 2.2.0 and related features

Q: We are already using Verse and upgrading from Domino v11 to v12. What does it take for us to upgrade to the latest version of Verse?

A: The latest version of Verse works on Domino v12. You will need to download the package from the license and download portal and install it on Domino as you have done before.

Q: How will a restored message avoid being archived again, assuming it matches the same archive rule?

A: Currently, mail rules only work in pre-defined condition and typically, it works with new incoming email which fits that pre-defined condition. In this case, the restored message shouldn’t be archived again.

General Use of Verse

Q: Is HCL Verse the default mail client on Domino?

A: We included Verse in the Domino v12 package. Customers can still choose the client that they prefer to use. The version of Verse in Domino v12 is v2.0.1, so if you want to use the latest version, you will have to get the package from the license and download portal and you can read this guide to getting started.

Q: Since Verse is a web client for HCL mail, can we use Verse without the ID Vault for users who do not use Notes at all?

A: Verse can be used without the ID Vault, but secure mail operations (signing and encryption) would not be supported in that case.

Verse Future Roadmap

Q: Is “delayed delivery” on the roadmap (for parity with Notes)?

A: We have this on our roadmap, but it is not our top priority at this point. We will provide updates in the coming months.

Q: In another email application, if the user searches for any name, it shows the result by highlighting the words in subject, sender name and mail body. Can we get this feature in Verse?

A: This is a great idea. We’ll consider this and see how we can fit this into our roadmap.

Q: Is Verse able to provide the password suggestion dialog when enforcing the password?

A: This feature is not available for now, but we’ll certainly consider it.

Q: There are many preferences still within the iNotes or via a Notes client which are not available in Verse. When will these become available within Verse?

A: We understand the concerns of managing preferences, so we have been delivering various preferences in the past releases and this release as well. We’ll continue to work on that. Ultimately, users should be able to manage most of the preferences on Verse, like what they can do on iNotes.

Q: Is Verse going to support two-factor login?

A: TOTP is on our roadmap, and we hope to ship it in the coming months.

(Q) Are you going to provide color-coding for senders?

A: Yes, this is one of our top priorities, so we do have a plan for it.

Verse installation and packages

(1) Q: What is the servers_lookup jar used for?

A: Please refer to the following documentation for more information:

Q: Can you please provide the system requirements for 2.2.0?

A: Yes, please refer to this system requirements.

For more information about Verse, please visit HCL Verse website. The feature and benefits guide is also available on the site.

12. Oktober 2021 Posted by DNUG Marketing
